AdMeTech’s Consensus Conference was convened as the result of the meeting with Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), leaders of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), advocacy groups and industry on April 15, 2008. Based on this meeting, the Consensus Conference was held in two stages:
1.Organizing Committee was convened by AdMeTech Foundation in July, 2008 with the goal to develop an agenda and invite faculty members for the Consensus Conference in January 2009. Composition of the Organizing Committee was based on the recommendations of the Directors of NIH, NCI, and NIBIB.
2.Consensus Conference on Early Detection of Prostate Cancer in January 2009 was a joint effort of the AdMeTech Foundation, advocacy groups, NCI and NIBIB, with participation of the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center of the Department of Defense and Food and Drug Administration. This conference convened world leading, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, international experts in imaging, radiation oncology, urology, medical oncology, molecular biology, pathology and other field with the goals to:
Review the state of the art in prostate cancer care;
Identify fundamental challenges in patient care and potential solutions; and
Develop research strategy for the future.
